Questions
Open to new teams. Closed to uninvited guests.
Can anyone join my team?
No. Creating a personal account does not grant access to a team. Joining an existing team requires an invitation from an authorised admin or location leader.
What is included?
Your team branding, groups for locations or jobs, member management, text and image messages, replies, private conversations, group Info and a pinned message per group. Message notifications and the Android app are available too. Admins can enable membership in multiple groups.
Can we customise our company workspace?
Yes. Company admins can open Company settings, then Appearance and naming, to update the name, slogan and group labels. Company theme brings the logo, brand colour and available sidebar and page colours together, with a preview and one Save settings button. Read the settings guide.
Why do you ask about our company’s location and industry?
These details help us understand the companies using COMMS and may contribute to combined audience statistics for potential advertisers. Enter your company’s home city or town, country, region, industry and geographic coverage under Company settings. No street address is needed, and these details describe the company rather than tracking individual members.
What if our company has locations in several regions?
Choose Our home region and other regions and list the additional regions; your home region is already included. If you operate nationwide, choose Across the country without listing each region. There is also an option for locations across multiple countries.
How long are messages kept?
Messages older than 90 days are removed by a daily cleanup, including group, private and COMMS Support messages, their attachments and Seen receipts. Save anything important elsewhere. Group Info and company logos are not removed by this message cleanup. Backups may retain older data separately.
Do unused groups expire?
Yes. After 90 days without a new message in a group or its group-specific private chats, a clock icon in the sidebar shows a 10-day countdown. Sending a new text or image message resets it; reading or editing does not. At 100 days the daily cleanup deletes the group and its related content, but keeps personal accounts and other groups. No reminder email is sent. Read about inactive groups.
Can members belong to more than one group?
Yes, when the team admin enables group sharing. Leaders can manage membership only in groups they lead. New group access includes messages from the start of the joining day in the team’s timezone, then onwards.
Can admins see group conversations?
Team admins can access all group conversations within their team. Members see the groups they belong to. Letting leaders browse the team directory does not give them access to other groups’ chats.
Can we use a group for a temporary job or event?
Yes. Admins use the +/− control to create a group, then add an image and instructions in Info. When the job finishes, an admin can rename and reuse the group with the same people and history, or permanently delete it after typing its exact name. Deletion also removes its messages, group-specific private chats, invitations and information. People's accounts and other groups remain.
How do we add people who already use COMMS?
If they already belong to your company, open the group’s Info page, choose Add or invite people, then Existing people. With multiple-group access enabled, admins can add members or leaders; leaders can add people they are permitted to manage as members of groups they lead. Someone in a different company still needs an invitation to your company.
Can we pin important information?
Yes. Group leaders and admins can edit the group’s Info page, with one main image and text. They can also pin one of their own messages at the top of the conversation. Pinning another replaces it; unpinning leaves the original message in the chat. The conversation list continues to show the latest message.
Is there an app, and can I get message alerts?
Use the Android app, your browser, or a home-screen web app where supported. Allow notifications when prompted, or turn on Message notifications in My account. Alerts go to one preferred installation per account; enabling another replaces the previous destination. An internet connection is required, and offline sending is not available.
Can I delete my messages?
Yes. Right-click or press and hold your own message and choose Delete. Its content is removed and a deleted-message marker remains. Other people's replies stay in the conversation. A deleted message is also removed from the pinned position.
How do I send feedback or get help?
Open COMMS Support after signing in. Use the feedback form for suggestions that do not need a reply, or start a support conversation for help. Replies arrive in the app when support is available.
Does COMMS show adverts?
COMMS is free to use. Advertising is not currently active, but adverts and sponsored content may appear in future to support the service. Company location and industry details may help us prepare combined audience statistics for potential advertisers.
What do I need to register?
Just your first name and email. Follow the verification link to create your password and open your personal account.
Who can see private conversations?
Only the two participants can access them through the app. Company admins have no override. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted, so server operators can technically access stored content.
